Putting a New Spin on Coordination Complex Chemistry

Inorganic Chemistry Seminar Series

Research in the Shores group comprises the synthesis and study of novel paramagnetic metal complexes, with the goal of controlling spin in molecular species and molecule-based materials. The main focus of this presentation will be on our efforts to link host-guest chemistry with the spin-crossover phenomenon. This family of Fe(II) complexes offers the possibility of using magnetometryâ€"and in some cases, visible color changesâ€"to report host-guest interactions in solution; it also provides an experimental platform for probing the influence of weak interactions on spin-crossover properties. The preparations, characterizations, and anion-binding studies of these and related complexes will be presented.
