Chemistry Woven Through Our Lives Poster Session

Primary tabs

Chemistry, as a scientific discipline, makes vast contributions to sustainability and the well-being of human kind.

In honor of the International Year of Chemistry, the Georgia Tech Library will give 10 graduate students the opportunity to present chemistry as a ubiquitous element of research in a juried poster session Thursday, Oct. 27. “Chemistry Woven Through Our Lives: Celebrating the International Year of Chemistry” is the first poster session of the Blended Research @The Library series.

“This series provides a forum for interaction between researchers from different disciplines who may be doing research in complementary areas,” said Lori Critz, head of the Library’s Faculty Engagement Department.

The poster session will take place Thursday, October 27 in the Library on the 2nd Floor West. Judging begins at 11 a.m. Winners will be announced at approximately 12:30 p.m. Posters will be available for public viewing from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The poster session is sponsored by the American Chemical Society, Institute of Physics, Knovel, CRC Press, and MathWorks. The year 2011 was officially established as the International Year of Chemistry (IYC 2011) in December 2008 at the 63rd General Assembly of the United Nations.

Georgia Tech joins chemical societies, academics, and institutions across the globe in this worldwide celebration of the achievements of chemistry. Participants from the departments/schools of Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Bioengineering, and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering will compete for cash prizes of $750 for 1st place, $500 for 2nd place, and $250 for 3rd place.

“This affords graduate students opportunities to present in ‘real world’ situations and also gives them presentation credit,” Critz added.

There will be two free raffles for Exhibition attendees - for MATLAB & Simulink Student Version software. Attendees must be present to win!
