The President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) Working Group on Advanced Manufacturing is holding its first regional meeting at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 14, 2011.

The Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) is a national effort bringing together the federal government, industry, universities and other stakeholders to identify and invest in emerging technologies with the potential to create high-quality domestic manufacturing jobs and enhance the global competitiveness of the United States.

President Barack Obama launched AMP this summer in response to recommendations from the PCAST. The report concluded that by investing strategically in the fast-moving field of advance manufacturing, the U.S. can not only strengthen its global position, but also generate high-paying jobs, support domestic innovation and bolster national security.

Georgia Tech President G. P. “Bud” Peterson and the presidents of five other world-class universities serve on the AMP Steering Committee, which will provide recommendations to the PCAST on how to catalyze investment in and deployment of emerging technologies.

During the AMP regional meeting, attendees will have an opportunity to provide thoughts on technology development, education and workforce development, facility and infrastructure sharing, and policies that could create a fertile environment for innovation.

Peterson will give a welcome at the meeting. Speakers include officials from the departments of Defense and Energy, the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and more.
