Bogost's Cow Clicker Takes on Alternate Reality Games

External News Details

Ian Bogost, Associate Professor in the School of Literature, Communication, and Culture and Director of the Graduate Program in Digital Media, has expanded the scope of his wildly popular Facebook game Cow Clicker, a satire of other wildly popular Facebook games. Cow ClickARG, which comes in the form of several cryptic clues that ask gamers to pursue 6 hidden cows across the globe, is but the latest Facebook game to explore Alternate Reality Games, where digital games lead players into the real world. Devoted Cow Clickers must seek the truth in clues in order to prevent "moo-msday," a masked threat that draws ever closer with the clicking of cows, yet may be pushed back by spending Facebook credits.

The Cow ClickARG may or may not be inspired by similar initiatives into ARGs by games sent up by Cow Clicker, such as Farmville. In any case, fans of Cow Clicker await an uncertain fate.  Source:  Kotaku, June 21, 2011
