In Loving Memory of W. Marshall Leach, Jr.

Primary tabs

It is with great sadness that we inform you that our dear friend and colleague, Marshall Leach, died on the morning of Saturday, November 20 after suffering a heart attack on Friday, November 19.

A much loved and respected faculty member with the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering since 1972, Dr. Leach taught in the areas of electromagnetics, microsystems, and electronic design and applications. He was a four-time recipient of the ECE Richard M. Bass/Eta Kappa Nu Outstanding Teacher Award--an honor determined by a majority vote of the ECE senior class--and also received several honors for his work in the classroom from Georgia Tech. He was a longtime advisor for the IEEE student branch, a technical advisor for WREK-FM (91.1), and a member of the Institute Radio Communication Board.

Dr. Leach's reach and influence never just stopped with his present pupils. Former students still enrolled at Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech alumni of various majors, and other outside parties continually called and consulted with him for technical advice. With his open door office policy, he almost always was working with at least one student at any given time. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Graveside services were held on Friday, November 26 at 3 pm in Melrose Cemetery, located on North Main St. in Abbeville, S.C., which is Dr. Leach's hometown. For more information and directions, visit the Harris Funeral Home web site or call (864) 366-4027. A guestbook is also available at this web site.

Update Nov. 29 A memorial service has been scheduled at Georgia Tech for Thursday, December 16 at 3 pm at the Marcus Nanotechnology Building. For more details, visit the ECE web calendar.
