City Water Main Break on Hemphill Under Repair

Primary tabs

Ongoing repair work related to the major water main break that erupted at the intersection of Hemphill Avenue and Ferst Drive may cause some disruptions on campus. The two locations where the City of Atlanta will be working on the repair are near the Sustainable Education Building in the driving lane and near Weber Building at Ferst Drive.

GT Facilities Management is working with the the City to try to schedule the most disruptive work between Thanksgiving and early January in an attempt to minimize additional impacts to campus. The long term plan is to re-feed municipal water connections to newer source lines, instead of from the very old, 30” city line that runs from 10th Street to North Avenue.

The initial water main eruption occured on Saturday, June 27 and continued for more than a week, sending thousands of gallons of water into the center of campus. This is a City of Atlanta Watershed project and is not led by Georgia Tech. For updates related to watershed projects, please visit the watershed press release page.
