Important Dates to Remember for Fall 2020

Primary tabs

The start of the semester is approaching and Housing and Residence Life has been preparing to welcome you back for the fall! There are several deadlines quickly approaching and we want to provide a few reminders to ensure that you do not miss out.

July 30 – Penalty-free Housing Cancellation Deadline

Housing and Residence Life has offered a limited window to cancel a housing assignment with no penalty between July 24 and July 30, 2020. Please remember that this deadline is 11:59 p.m. EDT on July 30. Cancellations after this date and time will be subject to the communicated cancellation penalty schedule in the contract, which can be found here. If you are interested in cancelling, please complete your housing cancellation on My Housing on the Resources tab.  We appreciate your timely decision as this will allow us to accommodate other members of the Georgia Tech community who are in need of fall housing.

July 31 - Room Swap Deadline

The last day to Room Swap is Friday, July 31, 2020. Residents with a Georgia Tech on-campus room assignment for 2020-2021 can use Room Swap to search for and change to another room for Fall 2020.  Log-in to My Housing and use the 'Room Swap' tab on the gold bar.

August 3 - International Travel Intentions Deadline

A few weeks ago, an International Student Housing Intention Form was created to allow international residents to declare their intentions for the fall semester. The deadline to request a cancellation, late arrival, or need to quarantine is Monday, August 3, 2020. Please visit the My Housing portal, clicking on Resources and then selecting the International Student Housing Intention Form.

Please note that a two-week quarantine is only required for students coming from abroad. If you are an international student who has been in the U.S. since March or completed quarantine in the U.S. previously this summer, you do not need to quarantine.

August 4 - Meal Plan Cancellation Deadline

First-year residents choose a meal plan as part of their housing application process. If these residents decide to cancel their housing application for the 2020-2021 year, their mandatory meal plan will automatically be cancelled by the Buzz Card Office.

Returning and upper-class residents had the option to choose a voluntary meal plan as part of the housing application process. These residents who choose to cancel their voluntary meal plan must do so manually by emailing support@buzzcard.gatech.edu on or before August 4, 2020.

August 5 – Move-In Time-Slot Deadline

New this year, residents will be required to sign up for a move-in time to ensure social distancing over all move-in days. Make sure you sign up for the building you are assigned to on the day and time that works for your schedule. You must sign-up for a slot by August 5, 2020 or a time will be assigned to you. If you haven't yet, download Transact Mobile Ordering from the App Store or Google Play Store, choose “Georgia Tech Connect,” your icon preference, and log in with your campus ID. Please email questions to movein@housing.gatech.edu.

Additionally, here are some reminders as you plan your return to on-campus housing.

Planning to Ship Items to Yourself?

The Georgia Tech Post Office has moved to its temporary space in the new Exhibition Hall, where it will stay until late 2022 while the Student Center is renovated. We will have reduced package storage while in our temporary space and cannot accommodate large items like futons or fridges, so please limit the size and number of packages you send through the Post Office. Many large items you'll need to move in can be purchased from nearby retailers. There is more information that residents really need to know about their campus mail, find that and our contact information at postoffice.gatech.edu.

Move-In

We are regularly updating our website with information about move-in for first-years and returning students. Visit the move-in pages for first-year and returning students for the latest on tips, process, what to bring and where to go.
