MentorTech Thrives in Virtual Environment

Primary tabs

This week, the MentorTech: Professional Partnerships program celebrates the successful conclusion of its third year. MentorTech is an employee mentoring program that strategically pairs mentees and mentors into a one-on-one experience focused on professional partnerships.

In 2020, the program accepted 92 Institute employees into partnerships from over 56 different campus departments.

The six-month program traditionally kicks off in February and concludes in August. This year’s program, like so many others, was forced to shift its format due to social distancing restrictions caused by Covid-19.

In-person meetups transitioned to e-mentoring.

“A national pandemic couldn’t stop the mentoring partnerships. We pivoted and leveraged technology to keep the conversations going,” said Yvette Francis, program manager.

Collectively the pairs invested more than 500 hours.

Georgia Tech Human Resources (GTHR) is exceptionally proud of the 2020 participants and their commitment to the program.

“The connection with Susan has been great. In this time of COVID-19 and working remotely we were able to meet face to face via Teams every other week,” said Carla Zachery, a program mentor.

Program participants had diverse needs and were matched based on their individual interest in one of the following categories:

  • General Career Guidance,
  • Work/Life Transitions,
  • Sponsor, and
  • Technical Competency.

“Despite the remote relationship, mentoring can still be very beneficial and, in fact, is even more important,” said Dian Chung, a program mentor.

Program mentors and mentees shared their personal sentiments and appreciation for how flexible the program was at allowing them to chart their own course. You can learn more about the 2020 MentorTech experience here.

The MentorTech: Professional Partnership Program looks forward to forging new partnerships in 2021 as the program continues to improve every year. If you are interested in mentorship, consider MentorTech. GTHR will begin accepting applications in early 2021.
