Election Day in Georgia is Tuesday, June 9. Voters will cast their ballots in primary elections for the president, congressional and state legislators, local officials, and Georgia Supreme Court justices, and will get to weigh in on party-specific questions and local measures.

Those who voted in the presidential primary before it was pushed back due to Covid-19 will still be able to vote in all of the other races on Tuesday.

Registered Georgia voters should visit mvp.sos.ga.gov to check their voter registration and absentee ballot status (if requested), learn where their polling place is, and view sample ballots. Georgia has an open primary, meaning voters can request a Democratic, Republican, or nonpartisan ballot without formally affiliating themselves with a party beforehand. Those who select a nonpartisan ballot can only vote in the nonpartisan general election.

Many voters have requested mail-in ballots to avoid in-person contact at polling places. Mail-in absentee ballots will only be counted if they’re received by mail or placed in an absentee ballot drop box by 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, and West Virginia have elections on June 9 as well. Visit the National Council of State Legislatures for a list of each state’s election — and potential runoff election — dates. The nationwide general election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Georgia Tech Athletics recently announced that all nine teams previously scheduled to be involved in in-season activities will cancel their mandatory events that day to encourage student-athletes and staff to vote.
