Julia Babensee Appointed Fellow Biomaterials Science and Engineering

Primary tabs

Julia Babensee, associate professor in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University, received the accolade of Fellow Biomaterials Science and Engineering (FBSE) from the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE).

Fellows in the IUSBSE have gained a status of excellent professional standing and high achievements in the field of biomaterials science and engineering.

Babensee’s presentation of the FBSE fellowship from the IUSBSE was originally scheduled to occur on May 19th at the 12th World Biomaterials Congress in Glasgow, United Kingdom prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her research is focused on defining design criteria for new biomaterials with improved host responses through a fundamental understanding of the in vivo failure mechanisms of current biomaterials.  Babensee’s research program is in the area of immunoengineering using biomaterial-based strategies to direct immune responses for applications in regenerative medicine, autoimmunity, transplantation, and vaccines.
