Kevin Satterfield’s Passion for Air Travel Fuels His Career Path

Primary tabs

Kevin Satterfield’s fascination with the airline industry began as a child.

“I think it’s really about that childhood wonder,” said Satterfield.  “Looking out the window and seeing these giant machines that don’t look like they could really fly, but then they’re hurdling down the runway, they hit 160 knots, and that nose starts lifting up.”

“You’re just taken aback by it.”

When Kevin stepped foot on Georgia Tech’s campus, he had his sights set on becoming an engineer, but he soon found an unexpected passion for studying economics. He switched majors and charted a path to merge his academic pursuits and career ambitions.

Then, in the summer of 2019, Satterfield interned at Delta Airlines. He worked with the sales department to help streamline the booking experience for corporate travel managers and travel agencies. The internship led to a full-time position.

Satterfield will be joining the commercial strategy program at Delta in January. In the 36-month rotation program, he will split his time between two jobs before being graduating, again, and moving into a permanent role.

Despite racking up the frequent flyer miles during his internship and working in the industry, the technological novelty of taking to the air has yet to wear off on Satterfield.

“I’ve always, still, been amazed by the plane taking you to this place hundreds of miles away,” he said. “It’s just really cool.”
