Abstract:

The objective of the proposed research is to find novel approaches for the fabrication of organic photodiodes (OPD) with near-infrared (NIR) response enabled by novel materials used recently in organic solar cells with high power conversion efficiencies and processing techniques such as the atomic layer deposition (ALD). ALD treatments yield devices with both low current density (in average and in standard deviation) in the absence of the targeted signal and high current density in the presence of the targeted signal (high responsivity). These characteristics are desirable for improving the photodetector metrics such as the signal-to-noise ratio, the noise equivalent power, and the specific detectivity. In applications in which the properties of organic materials are desirable/required, the proposed ALD-based treatments could be extended to other NIR OPD for better detection.
