Student Health Insurance Enrollment Deadline Approaching

Primary tabs

Georgia Tech students who are required to or would like to enroll in the student health insurance program (SHIP) must do so by September 15th. Georgia Tech offers SHIP to enrolled undergraduate and graduate students and their eligible dependents who do not already have insurance. This plan includes comprehensive coverage (medical, dental, vision, prescription, and worldwide travel) for the 2019-2020 policy year administered by UnitedHealthcare StudentResources (UHCSR).

The University System of Georgia (USG) requires certain groups of students to enroll in SHIP. Students who fall into these mandatory groups are not automatically enrolled and must enroll in or waive coverage by the September 15th deadline. Those students who are not in a mandatory group, but are taking at least 4 credit hours including postdoctoral scholars, J1 scholars and OPT, may also enroll in the voluntary SHIP. Students enrolling in the voluntary SHIP must also enroll by September 15th. Distance learning students or other online degree programs are not eligible.

Students may also choose to enroll their dependents. Eligible dependents include a student’s spouse and eligible children up to 26 years of age, including stepchildren, foster children, and legally adopted children.

SHIP coverage begins August 1, 2019 for one academic year only and all eligible students MUST enroll each fall and spring semester for coverage continuation from policy year to policy year. If you miss the open enrollment period, you will not be able to enroll until the next enrollment period in the spring.
