Georgia Tech Appoints Susan Sanders to Development Associate in the College of Architecture

Primary tabs

Susan Sanders, co-founder and manager of the Institute of Design + Culture in Rome, has returned to Atlanta to lead development efforts in the College of Architecture at Georgia Tech. As development associate, Sanders will pursue strategic alliances and philanthropic initiatives to support the College’s academic, research and service missions.

Her expertise spans educational management; client relations and business development; as well as architectural education, design and practice.  Prior to her seven-year leadership of the Institute of Design + Culture, she served as the Creative Director for Carrier Johnson Architects in San Diego. She also has taught architectural design at the Universities of Arkansas and Kansas and the Savannah College of Art and Design; and was Hyde Chair of Excellence at the University of Nebraska.

In Rome she was a visiting lecturer for the University of Washington and Michigan State University Rome programs, and for museums, corporate groups and educational travel programs. Her current research is focused on the importance—and remaining presence—of ancient Rome in modern American culture with an emphasis on the intersections between past and present in both the United States and Rome. Sanders received the Master of Architecture degree from Georgia Tech in 1989 and the Bachelor of Arts in Art from the University of Georgia.

“The recent celebration of its 100th anniversary places Georgia Tech’s College of Architecture at a crossroads,” said Vice President for Development Barrett H. Carson. “This critical juncture represents a time of renewal for the College—entering its next hundred years with a bold vision for equipping students with the tools, the inventiveness, and the inspiration to take on the most significant challenges of our time. Because of her extensive background in arts leadership and development, Susan Sanders is the ideal person to help the College fulfill its ambitious agenda of building a world-class faculty, creating state-of-the-art classrooms and studio spaces, and bolstering interdisciplinary research initiatives. Susan well understands the critical role of private philanthropy in strengthening disciplines that are literally shaping the future.”
