Events for De-Stressing for Finals

Primary tabs

Finals are approaching, and with them comes a natural increase in stress. Several upcoming events are designed to help students take breaks from studying and manage stress throughout exam season.

No matter how you want to unwind, there’s a way for you to have fun during finals, so check out one of the following:

Mondays and Thursdays: Weekly Meditation

Room 319, Student Center

Twice a week, SKY at Georgia Tech hosts short guided meditations designed to help people de-stress. The last two Monday sessions are on April 22 and 29 from 6 to 6:30 p.m., and the last Thursday session is April 25 from 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Monday, April 22: SCPC Presents: Just Brew It

Skiles Courtyard, 1 to 3 p.m.

The Student Center Programs Council (SCPC) will teach students how to make their own coffee or boba tea. The event is free and grad student-friendly, and all attendees will receive a drink and recipe to take home.

Monday, April 22: Mindful Mondays with Health Initiatives

Juniper Room, Student Center, 4 to 5 p.m.

The last session of Health Initiatives’ weekly Mindful Mondays is on April 22. Students can drop in to learn short mindfulness techniques and stress management skills to incorporate into their everyday lives, as well as enjoy free coloring.

Monday, April 22 and 29: Let’s Talk

Communication Center (Clough Commons Suite 447), 10 a.m. to noon

Let’s Talk is an initiative by the Georgia Tech Counseling Center that offers informal walk-in appointments every Monday. Students can talk to a counselor about anything on their minds without the clinical paperwork, formal intake, or scheduling of a regular counseling session.

Therapy dogs will be back in the Georgia Tech Library. Find them on the Grove Level of Crosland Tower.

Bowling, billiards, gaming, and more will be free all day in Tech Rec. Free snacks will also be offered from 8 to 10 p.m. to give students one last push before finals start. You must have a valid BuzzCard to participate.

Wednesday, April 24: Pet Therapy

The last pet therapy day of the semester is April 24. Come out to the Student Center to de-stress in the company of puppies galore.

Wednesday, April 24: StressBuzzters

On Reading Day, enjoy yoga, snacks, drinks, on-hand counselors, and massages in the newly renovated Crosland Tower. Massages will be available from 1 to 3 p.m., and everything else will run from 3 to 5 p.m.

Monday, April 29: SCPC Presents: Midnight Breakfast

Student Center Third Floor and Food Court, 7 p.m. to midnight

One of SCPC’s signature events is back for the spring semester. Take a break from studying with events on the third floor of the Student Center, or head down to the food court and enjoy some of your favorite breakfast foods. The third-floor activities will take place between 7 and 10 p.m., and Midnight Breakfast itself runs from 9 p.m. to midnight. Time slots for Midnight Breakfast must be reserved in advance.

As a general reminder, the Georgia Tech Counseling Center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Any student in crisis may speak to a counselor at 404-894-2575 or, during business hours, drop by the Center, located in Suite 238 of the Charles A. Smithgall Jr. Student Services Building, also known as the Flag Building.
