Congratulations to Katelyn Voorhees, NIRSA Award Winner!

Primary tabs

Every year, NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation recognizes three student and six professional members who have gone above and beyond to serve their community. The Campus Recreation Complex (CRC) is proud to announce CRC facilities coordinator, Katelyn Voorhees was awarded the NIRSA annual service award for her work during the 2017-2018 school year as a NIRSA region II student leader. Voorhees was nominated for her service to the community and presented with an award during the NIRSA Annual Conference and Campus Rec & Wellness Expo on Feb. 19th.

For Voorhees, volunteer work is more than just an activity. “Service is not just something you do, but something within yourself. I think like any habit, it becomes part of who you are,” said Voorhees. She has spent her life volunteering for different organizations after being inspired by her grandparents. By the end of high school, Voorhees had volunteered for her local sheriff’s office, the county library, NASA, various school clubs, and the American Red Cross at the local Air Force Base in Florida. Later, when Voorhees attended the University of Florida (UF), she focused her time on a dance marathon and various service opportunities through UF Recreational Sports. It was her last semester at UF where she was given the opportunity to serve as the chair of the NIRSA Region II student lead on committee that opened the door for more NIRSA opportunities. This transitioned well into her graduate work at Clemson University where she served as a graduate student advisor for Clemson Miracle and the NIRSA Region II Student Leader.

The CRC is proud to recognize Voorhees as both an outstanding employee and NIRSA Annual Service Award winner. There are many facets of a college student’s experience that is impacted by collegiate recreation and she continues to provide exceptional service to the CRC and Georgia Tech community. The CRC is happy to have people like Voorhees who go out of their way to benefit the community.
