CSE Discusses Research with Industry Leaders at the 2018 Strategic Partnership Summit

Primary tabs

The School of Computational Science and Engineering (CSE) held its third annual Strategic Partnership Program (SPP) Summit, May 1.

The annual partners-only meeting puts industry and government representatives in an intimate setting with peers from research and academia to discuss current and future needs from research, while introducing students to potential employers.

The summit included a welcoming speech by College of Computing Dean Zvi Galil and a CSE overview by School Chair David Bader.

“This was a highly successful summit for the CSE SPP program. We had some of the top minds from industry and government including Accenture, Booz Allen Hamilton, Ford Motors, HPCC Systems, IBM, Keysight Technologies, National Security Agency, NVIDIA, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Sandia National Laboratories come to discuss the current standings of our research, and how we can all move forward together into the future,” said Bader.

The agenda included research updates on exascale computing by Associate Professor Edmond Chow and artificial intelligence systems in health care by Associate Professor Jimeng Sun.  Senior Research Scientist Jason Riedy provided an overview and update on the Center for Research into Novel Computing Hierarchies (CRNCH) Rogues Gallery and Associate Chair for Academic Programs Ümit Çatalyürek offered a CSE curriculum presentation.

The agenda also include Georgia Tech Executive Director of Real Estate Tony Zivalich, who gave a presentation on the Coda building currently being built in Tech Square. Despite other schools from Georgia Tech operating in Coda, CSE will be the only school that will move all staff, operations, research, faculty, and students into the building when it opens. The school is currently scheduled to move in to the new building in mid-2019.

The meeting concluded with panel discussions and notes about research being conducted within the school and how it could be best tailored to current day problems or goals within the private and government sectors represented at the meeting.

“In our partnership program, we are looking for true partners to the school and to our research. We believe that if we are going to succeed in solving challenges in the future, we need to work together with all sectors to make the impossible, possible,” said Bader.
