Abstract:

The objective of the proposed research is to develop signal detection and synchronization algorithms for advanced multi-carrier systems.  As the cell synchronization is performed as the very first step when user equipment wants to camp on any cell, synchronization is one of the critical issues for wireless communications.  In the orthogonal frequency multiplexing (OFDM) systems, synchronization algorithms with either data-aided or non-data-aided schemes have been widely researched. Despite the promising techniques offered by OFDM systems, different sequences and synchronization algorithms can be required for different multi-carrier systems such as filter-bank multi-carrier (FBMC) and universal filtered multi-carrier (UFMC) systems. Prior research into the evaluation of the proposed synchronization techniques for FBMC and the demonstration of asynchronous uplink transmission with UFMC are presented. Cell synchronization algorithms for multi-carrier systems are proposed in the presence of large carrier frequency offset.
