Paper Published in the Journal, Optics Express, on Terahertz Imaging of Paintings, Co-authored by Faculty and PhD Students from Georgia Tech-Lorraine

Primary tabs

Junliang Dong, Alexandre Locquet, and David S. Citrin from Georgia Tech-Lorraine/Georgia Tech, co-authored a paper that was recently published in Optics Express¹ (Optical Society of America Publishing). This paper, entitled, "Terahertz frequency-wavelet domain deconvolution for stratigraphic and subsurface investigation of art painting," illustrates how terahertz imaging can reveal hidden features in an art painting. Specifically, it is shown that THz possesses the unique ability for a non-ionizing radiation to reveal, at the same time, the roughness of the surface, underlying paint layers or brush strokes, and potential defects in the canvas/paperboard.
