The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory is ranked No.1 in U.S. News & World Report’s latest ranking of the nation’s top undergraduate biomedical engineering programs. The department is a partnership between Emory University’s School of Medicine and Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering. 

“This ranking is a testament to the excellence of our faculty, staff and students, and to our culture of ‘fearless problem solving’ and effective communication that prepares our graduates for complex-real world challenges”, said C. Ross Ethier, interim chair of the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering. “Further, the synergy between Georgia Tech Engineering and the Emory School of Medicine is part of the magic that makes our program outstanding.” 

Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering moved up one position to fourth for undergraduate engineering programs at institutions that award doctoral degrees. The college also continued with solid rankings in its engineering programs, with all of its programs ranked in the top 10 of their disciplines and in the top five among public institutions. The undergraduate biomedical engineering degree program moved up from number three to number one. Biomedical engineering joins the George H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering as number one ranked programs within the College of Engineering.

May, CoE dean and Southern Company Chair. “Rankings are not what drive our successes, but it’s gratifying to watch the College continue its ascent and cement its place among top engineering programs.”

Among other relatively new specialized categories, Georgia Tech moved up from 13 to 7 in “Most Innovative,” up from 30 to 21 in “Best Colleges for Veterans,” and up from 27 to 23 in “High School Guidance Counselor Ranking.”
