Research Challenges in Materials Informatics: A View from Georgia Tech

Primary tabs

Materials Informatics is an emerging field that exploits computational methods for data analytics and simulation to accelerate the design and manufacture of new materials. The goal of this workshop is to identify a small number of challenge problems where large impacts can be achieved through advances in computing (big data, parallel computing, etc.). The end goal of this activity is to create a report articulating Georgia Tech’s views on the field that will be used to publicize research activities and help drive future research initiatives at Georgia Tech, e.g., through the Flamel NSF-IGERT program or other activities.

Organized by IMAT and the Flamel program, the workshop is organized around five study groups in each of the areas listed below. We anticipate each group would identify one or two key challenges in each of these areas as well as suitable sub-challenges.

Principal points of contact are: Richard Fujimoto, Surya Kalidindi, and David McDowell. Logistics for the event are being handled by Holly Rush in conjunction with IMAT personnel.

Technical Areas (lead)
