It's that time of the year again! Yahoo! Hack Week is back for another week of learning, competition, and good clean geek fun. This year's Hack Week will take place from March 9 - 13th; for more information on just what Hack U is, check out the website. For full details on the variety of events taking place, check out this site.

Here are a few opportunities throughout Hack Week that may be of particular interest to Faculty:

Panels

We'll be having two panel discussions during the week on the topics "Cloud Computing" and "Mobile Computing". For each talk, Yahoo! will be sending a couple of their experts, and we're also looking for a couple of faculty members to participate. If you'd be interested in participating in either of these discussions, please let me know!

Judging

We are also looking for judges who can attend the presentations on March 13th. Though most hacks will be web-based, a variety of categories exist, including:

  • Hack for Good
  • Metro (Front page Apps)
  • Best Mobile
  • User Experience & Design
  • Hardware Hack
  • Best Overall (1st, 2nd & 3rd)

Course Tie-ins

A number of technical people from Yahoo! will be visiting during this event; their expertise centers around the various facets of web development. If there's anything Yahoo! does (from web programming to multimedia design to machine learning to open source tools and tips) that you think might be interesting to your class, let us know, and we will see if there is an opportunity to have one of the engineers/scientists come speak about a relevant topic.

Promotion

And of course, if you're as excited about this as we are, we encourage you to encourage your students to come out to the events and submit a hack! The best way you can help is by mentioning it to your classes and the students you work with. I'm attaching a PDF with a rundown of some of the events that we would love to be shown in class; there's a more complete schedule at the website linked at the beginning of this email.
