This May 9-14, 2016, the Health & Humanitarian Supply Chain Management program will be offered by the Center for Health and Humanitarian Systems (HHS) at the Georgia Tech Global Learning Center at Tech Square.

The 6-day intensive certificate program consists of three courses (2 days each), and all 3 courses must be taken to earn the certificate (although courses may also be taken individually):

• Pre-planning Strategy for Health and Humanitarian Organizations
• Tactical Decision Making in Public Health and Humanitarian Response
• Systems Operations in Health and Humanitarian Response

Course topics focus on logistics and supply-chain management related to a broad range of activities including preparing, responding to, and recovery from natural and man-made disasters, as well as ongoing humanitarian crises due to war, famine, infectious diseases, and chronic health problems. The blended delivery format includes pre-course reading assignments, in-class lectures, discussion, interactive games and group work.

The program's intensive format enables individuals traveling from outside of Atlanta and the U.S. the opportunity to earn the certificate from Georgia Tech in less than a week. Past course participants have come to to Atlanta from all over the globe, having lived and worked in over 76 countries with varying experience across the global health and humanitarian sectors.

The program is designed for practitioners in non-governmental organizations (NGOs), government, industry, and military who are active participants in humanitarian operations, including disaster response, long term development and public health operations; however, others have come from private sector logistics, academia, or other areas looking to break into global health or humanitarian work. 

Past course participants have praised the diverse group of experiences among their classmates and the opportunities to network with and learn from each other as well as the practical applications and group simulation activities which gave them new approaches to challenges in their areas of work. Amanda Paniagua, Shipments Manager at MedShare International Atlanta headquarters reflected: “The professors were exceptional and incredibly knowledgeable on all things supply chain. I also learned so much just from hearing other students share their experiences from the field in class.” 

Likewise, Kenny Onasanya, Procurement team lead for Crown Agents in Nigeria, emphasized the “scope of subjects covered, practical case studies in diverse sectors from health, education and other public sector projects.” The “practical and interactive training” also helped practitioners such as Bob Muteeganda, Supply officer at the United Nations Ivory Coast, to “understand the theory behind practices in the industry.” He reflected: “I now feel well prepared to reorient my career to the health and humanitarian supply chain management sector.”

The fee for the 2016 HHSCM certificate program is $6,000 USD ($2,000 per course), which includes tuition, course materials and gifts, daily parking, breakfast/lunch/snacks at Georgia Tech, and class related activities for the 6-days. The fee for each course if taken individually is $2,400. The fee does not include lodging, transportation costs, or other meals.
