A Journey through ImmunoEngineering and Cell Manufacturing: It takes a Village... and beyond

Abstract: 
ImmunoEngineering and Cell Manufacturing has emerged as two major thematic areas of research at Georgia Tech. In this talk I will present a brief overview of our lab's journey through these areas: from vaccines and immunotherapies to biomanufacturing of therapeutic cells.  We will also discuss the overall objectives of these two research programs at Georgia Tech; specifically their synergy and vision to improve human health in the context of precision and personalized medicine. I will also lay out the vision, mission, and opportunities of the new Marcus Center for Therapeutic Cell Characterization and Manufacturing (MC3M) and put forward a roadmap that asks the entire Georgia Tech research community: bioengineers, chemical, electrical and mechanical engineers, industrial and manufacturing engineers, computational scientists, biologists, chemists and physicists as well as policy experts, to join in this incredible opportunity and work together with clinicians to solve a major national challenge.
