The Georgia Tech Student Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery (gtACM) won 2nd place at the 2007 Southeastern Regional ACM Programming Contest held at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, on October 13th, 2007. Now, the students start practicing and await an invitation to the World Finals to be held in Banff Springs, Alberta, later next spring.

The second place winning team, called the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, consists of David Foster, a Computer Science undergraduate, Marc Pare, a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate and Chinmay Karande, a graduate student in Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization. Aside from the competitors, the contest was attended by coach David Van Brackle, a community volunteer, and assistant coach Topraj Gurung, a doctoral candidate at the College of Computing.

In all, Georgia Tech sent five three-person teams to the contest, placing 2nd, 24th, 40th, 47th and 50th out of 58 teams.

Founded in 1947, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) promotes and increases knowledge of science, design, development, construction, languages and applications of modern computing. The ACM is the society for computing professionals. The Georgia Tech Student Chapter (GTACM) is the primary student organization for computer science majors. Activities include organized corporate and faculty presentations and other events, which benefit both undergraduate and graduate students. GTACM also provides an avenue for students to develop corporate leadership skills.
