New Faculty Orientation Held Feburary 2

Primary tabs

On Tuesday, February 2, the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) will hold its New Faculty Orientation to Sponsored Programs for the spring semester. Although the office participates in the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) new faculty orientation each fall semester, this presentation and luncheon is unique to providing information about the resources offered by OSP.

“A number of new faculty members arrive at Tech in January,” said OSP eCommerce Officer Michelle Powell. “They may not be aware of the tools [OSP provides] for locating funding and preparing proposals. We also talk about research compliance and IP [intellectual property] issues.”

The orientation will provide attendees with an overview of services that OSP provides along with a survey of Institute and federal policies and procedures on research contracts. Services offered by OSP include the review and submission of all sponsored project proposals, as well as conducting post-award grant and contract administration services for the Institute. Other OSP services covered include proposal and project reporting; copying, subcontract negotiations; and administration under sponsored projects.

Other resources for faculty covered include identification of funding opportunities, OSP training in sponsored programs, such as National Science Foundation FastLane, Cayuse 424, Grants.gov, Department of Defense Contracting, Industrial Contracting and budgets.

Representatives from the Office of Research Compliance will discuss the approval processes of the Institutional Review Board (testing involving human subjects), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (research involving rDNA). Technology Licensing and Georgia Tech Research Corporation representatives also will be on-hand to answer questions.

Held in the Research Administration Seminar Room from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m, the class is limited to roughly 30 people. Register on the OSP Web site.
