Short Film Thursday: "When a House is Not a Home"

Primary tabs

"When a House is Not a Home" is a half-hour documentary tracing the story of how neighbors in the Historic West End of Atlanta got educated, empowered, and engaged in reclaiming their community. The film lays bare the ravages of mortgage fraud--high vacancy rate, depressed property values and public safety issues--on this historic neighborhood, which is one of the most effected in the country. The film also provides a step-by-step guide to how a homeowner can proactively challenge a house’s elevated tax assessment, one of the most significant residual affects of fraud that homeowners encounter.

This showing will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, Brent Brewer and Georgia Tech's Paulette Richards.
