Pedestrian's Guide to Construction: you can get there from here

Primary tabs

If you regularly walk to classes or work on Cherry Street or Ferst Drive, a new renovation project is going to change your commute from now until early November.

But don't worry: you can get there from here.

You'll just need to schedule a little more time to get where you are going. Some of the more direct routes will be closed. For details, see this map (PDF).

Here's a look at how it will work:

Ferst Drive

The fenced walkway in front  of Montgomery Knight will lead to an existing sidewalk that runs west along Tech Parkway.

Fences now block this roadway from vehicle traffic between the Cherry Street intersection and the Tech Trolley Turnaround (in front of the Weber buildings).

Pedestrians will use a fenced-off walkway that runs along one side of the streetdirectly in front of Montgomery Knight (MK). This walkway leads directly into an existing sidewalk on Tech Parkway which leads down to the Trolley Stop in front of Weber. (see map)

They can also access the front door of MK by walking through a narrow alleyway between the Weber and Coon buildings.

"Can I still just run across the street from MK to my class in Weber (and vice versa)?"

For the most part, there will be no direct route between the entrances of  these two buildings. Pedestrians should plan to cross Ferst Drive at the Tech Trolley Turnaround (in front of Weber) and use the fenced walkway (and the Tech Parkway sidewalks) to travel up and down Ferst.

Alternately,  they can use the crosswalk directly in front of the MK entrance, which leads to the Coon-Weber alleyway. From there, they will need to walk to a basement entrance in the rear of Weber and use their key card to enter the building. (see map)

This is the Ferst Drive entrance to the Tech Parkway sidewalk. Pedestrians will take this walkway down to the Tech Trolley Turnaround where they can then cross Ferst Drive to enter the Weber buildings (I and II).

Cherry Street

Cherry Street has been blocked off from motor vehicle traffic from North Avenue to Ferst Drive. Foot traffic will be on one side of the street only.

Access to Buildings

All buidings will continue to be accessible to routine foot traffic during construction. The location of the sidewalks may change, from time to time, to accommodate the construction crews.

For both Weber buildings, there will be justone front entrance: the west-facing doors nearest the Tech Trolley.  All other front entrances will be inaccessible during construction. In the rear of the Weber buildings, key cards can be used to access locked entrances.

Pizza?

Normal-sized deliveries (e.g. pizza) will be made via the side courtyard entrance of MK, or the main entrance, as always. All deliveries to the Weber buildings will be made through the Skiles Walkway, where a temporary ramp will be installed to facilitate. For assistance in planning larger deliveries, contact Assistant Director of Administrative Operations, Susan Jackson atsusan.jackson@ae.gatech.edu.
