Paralympics Swim Meet to be Held at Tech

BlazeSports Georgia and the U.S. Paralympics present the 2006 BlazeSports Georgia Open U.S. Paralympic Swim Meet and Clinic January 20-22 at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

This Long Course U.S. Paralympic Open competition is open to swimmers with disabilities from all nations. It will be governed by the swimming technical rules of the International Paralympic Committee.

The Georgia Tech Aquatic Center was the site of the 1996 Paralympic Games swimming competition. The facility features an indoor 50-meter, 10-lane competition pool, plus a dive pool that may be used for warm-up/warm-down during competition. The Aquatic Center is located in the Georgia Tech Campus Recreation Center.

BlazeSports Georgia is a program of the U.S. Disabled Athletes Fund (USDAF) which is the legacy program of the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games. It is funded in part by a grant from the State of Georgia and individual grants and donations. This is a Tenth Anniversary Celebration event for USDAF, and it commemorates a decade of offering sports for children and adults with physical disabilities.

Headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado, U.S. Paralympics is a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, formed in May 2001 with the goal of enhancing programs, obtaining funding and providing competitive opportunities for athletes with physical disabilities to participate in Paralympic sports. Its mission is to be the world leader in the Paralympic movement and to promote excellence in the lives of all people with physical disabilities.
