Full Summary: The Georgia Tech chapter of Engineers Without Borders will celebrate the United Nations’ World Water Day

The Georgia Tech chapter of Engineers Without Borders will celebrate the United Nations’ World Water Day March 24 with a series of events designed to highlight water issues and sustainable development around the world.

A committee of first-year students has organized activities on Tech Walk from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. “as a way to get more involved with EWB and to raise awareness campus-wide about these specific water-related issues,” said Lin Htet Kyaw, one of the committee members.

Activities will include:

  • Racing on Tech Green while carrying jerry cans full of water, simulating the process millions of people go through each day to obtain their water.
  • Quizzes about water accessibility around the world.
  • An interactive photo booth for students to demonstrate how they pledge to conserve water.

Nearly 750 million people around the globe lack access to an improved source of drinking water, according to UN data. A staggering 2.5 billion don’t use an improved sanitation facility.

“[We want to] make a difference for the members of the global population and prepare for how we manage water in the future,” Kyaw said.
