Georgia Tech Programmers Place High in ACM Competition

Georgia Tech teams recently scored high honors at the 2014 Southeast Region of the ACM Programming Competition, with one team securing a spot for the World Finals next year.

Three tech teams – Yellow Jackets, Buzz, and Engineers – placed first, second, and third respectively at the competition held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Georgia Tech Research Institute.  Additionally, team Yellow Jackets finished second in the overall competition and has been chosen to participate in the 2015 World Finals Competition, which will be held May 16 to 21, 2015, in Morocco.

The College of Computing and the Office of Outreach Enrollment & Community hosted the 2014 Southeast Region of the Competition.  Georgia Tech hosted 67 teams, with 13 originating from Tech and 17 visiting from other institutions from around the region.  The Florida Institute of Technology hosted 30 teams, while the University of West Florida in Pensacola hosted 15 teams. 

Troy Peace, the college’s director of community, served as site director, while Debbie Davis and Keith Watson provided IT expertise and Alyshia Jackson and her mother, Donna Jackson, provided onsite support.
