9/11 Flag Memorial

Primary tabs

Georgia Tech students will display close to 3,000 American flags as part of a campus-wide memorial and remembrance ceremony to recognize victims and survivors of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, on the event's thirteenth anniversary.

The American Flag Memorial will consist of 2,977 flags set up by students on Skiles Lawn, one to represent each life that was taken during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

In addition to the flag memorial, a moment of silence will be observed at 11 a.m. and a remembrance ceremony will be held from 11–11:30 a.m. at the Campanile. David Fisher, a veteran of the U.S. Navy who is currently completing his electrical engineering degree at Georgia Tech, will share his reflection on 9/11.

The 9/11 Memorial Project consists of campus organizations and individuals dedicated to ensuring that Georgia Tech memorializes the anniversary of September 11, 2001, in a meaningful way. This year, the project is primarily supported by Georgia Tech's Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Diversity Programs, College Republicans, and the Young America's Foundation. Over 200 American college and university campuses are holding events to commemorate 9/11 on this thirteenth anniversary of the tragedy.
