Undergraduate Admission Early Action Notifications Moved to January

Primary tabs

As previously reported, this year the Office of Undergraduate Admission transitioned to the Common Application. Because the roll out of the Common App presented technical challenges surrounding our October 15 Early Action (EA) deadline, Georgia Tech moved its deadline date back to October 21 and its Document Deadline to November 1.

Typically, Georgia Tech releases EA decisions in mid-December. However, by October 1 the admissions website was updated to indicate "December 21 (Projected)."

It is now clear that the prudent decision is to release decisions on Saturday, January 4, 2014. The change in date is a result of the following:

  • Common Application technical delays
  • A 40 percent increase in applications this round (12,300 total).
  • A holistic and comprehensive review process that involves an application being read and reviewed by at least two staff members on separate days, as well as additional layers geared toward building and shaping a class intended to meet institutional priorities.
  • By shifting to a release on a Saturday prior to a regular business week instead of prior to an Institute holiday, the Office of Undergraduate Admission can offer enhanced customer service to students, families, and counselors.

After reviewing traditional yield rates and competitor timelines, the Office of Undergraduate Admission is confident that this release date will not compromise Georgia Tech’s ability to attract the most qualified students for its incoming freshman class.
