What Does Georgia Tech Think?

Primary tabs

The staff within the Division of Student Affairs have been hard at work, and their efforts are not going unnoticed. From grants and accolades to induction into honorary societies, your colleagues are doing tremendous things to further themselves and the Georgia Tech community – helping to answer the question “What does Georgia Tech Think?”

  • Jordan Holliday, coordinator of Sophomore Programs and Traditions Camps, and Laura Wright, senior administrative professional for New Student & Sophomore Programs, were inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) this past October. ODK is a national leadership honor society comprised of both students and faculty/staff on Tech’s campus that serves to enrich the lives of its members through service, leadership, and academics.
  • Associate Dean of Students, Cara Appel-Silbaugh, PhD, recently facilitated a panel at the Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) Annual Conference as part of her National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region III Women in Student Affairs Knowledge Community Chair responsibilities. The panel was entitled "Women in Student Affairs: Sailing into Leadership" and highlighted four women senior student affairs officers in the southeast region.
  • The Jumpstart research team (Cara Appel-Silbaugh, PhD; Julius Cave, Jumpstart site manager; Sarah Perkins, civic engagement coordinator; Anil Shetty, student integrity coordinator; and select staff from the Department of Housing [Shauna Nefos-Webb and Sheree Gibson]) will be presenting at the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) conference this coming March. ACPA supports and fosters college student learning through the generation and dissemination of knowledge, which informs policies, practices and programs for student affairs professionals and the higher education community.
  • Abby Myers, PhD, Counseling Center psychologist; Christie Stewart, PhD, associate director of Campus Recreation’s Healthy Lifestyles Program; and Cara Appel-Silbaugh, PhD, collectively received a $2000 grant from the NASPA Foundation for research they will be conducting on the culture of student wellness at Georgia Tech. This highly competitive grant was only awarded to eight recipients nationwide.

Please join us in congratulating these individuals on their hard-earned success!
