Select U.S. Embassies Closed through August 10th

Primary tabs

It was announced recently by the U.S. Department of State that a number of U.S. embassies are closed this week, impacting some students, scholars, or employees who planned to obtain or renew a U.S. visa and arrive in Atlanta this August. The Department of State has instructed certain U.S. diplomatic posts in 19 cities in the Muslim world be closed through August 10th and issued a World Travel Alert citing "an abundance of caution." To view a list of the impacted embassies, direct others to the list, or obtain future updates, please visit the U.S. Department of State website.

Please be aware that Georgia Tech international students must arrive to the U.S. and complete OIE international student check-in no later than 4:00pm on August 22nd to ensure that OIE can remove their registration hold and leave time for course registration. We hope the embassy closure impact is minimal, but ask that you email us at info@oie.gatech.edu if you are a student who has been affected or are a university official working with a student who will not arrive in time for the fall semester. We will ensure to discuss options related to their I-20 or DS-2019 and maintaining student visa status.
