Students at Work for the Division of Student Affairs

Primary tabs

This spring, The Buzz at Student Affairs will feature the profiles of our student workers - the ones who help us tremendously with our day to day responsibilities. Take a glimpse below into the lives of a few of our students who contribute to the Division of Student Affairs.

Brandi Strickland is a 4th year student from Marietta, Georgia. She is majoring in Biology and pursuing a minor in Women in Science and Technology. Brandi is a student assistant in the Women's Resource Center (WRC).

Why did you come to Tech?

BS: To get an amazing education. Georgia Tech was my top choice and I was elated when I got accepted. I received an International Baccalaureate diploma from Marietta High School, which I believe helped tremendously.

What are your plans after graduation?

BS: I will commission into the United States Air Force upon graduation. I find out in February if I will receive a pilot slot, so keep your phalanges crossed for me!

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

BS: Rugby, writing blogs, traveling, taking classes on things I’ve never done, scrapbooking, movies, etc.

What are some of your work responsibilities?

BS: As a student assistant at the Women's Resource Center, I help to enhance the academic performance and personal development of the women at Georgia Tech. As a student assistant, I help with a variety of tasks from helping my fellow students in need to assisting with the annual Women’s Leadership Conference.

What have you learned as a result of working for Student Affairs?

BS: Working at the Women’s Resource Center has taught me that Georgia Tech is a beautiful campus, full of diversity, wonderful minds, and passionate individuals dedicated to making a difference. Through my networking and the personal relations that I have fostered via my work at the WRC, I have experienced aspects of Georgia Tech life that I would not have otherwise. However, I have also realized that there is still a profound need for progression here at Georgia Tech. Whether it is educating students on sexual harassment awareness, LGBTQA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Queer and Ally) issues, the diversity of Georgia Tech and our community, equality within the workplace, etc, there are many opportunities for progress. The Georgia Tech Women’s Resource Center does a great job with realizing this and partners with other organizations and departments to foster a safer, more inclusive, and equal environment for women at Georgia Tech and in the community.

Stephen Webber is a 4th year student from McDonough, Georgia. Stephen is majoring in Business Administration and works in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.

Why did you come to Tech?

SW: I grew up a Tech fan and knew it was the place for me.

What are your plans after graduation?

SW: I hope to work in management consulting for a few years and then go back to school and get my MBA. I actually want to come back to Tech and teach one day.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

SW: Ramblin’ Reck Club, Chi Phi Fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa, FASET, Wreck Camp, Level A-3 Tennis Player-Atlanta Lawn and Tennis Association

What are some of your work responsibilities?

SW: Daily administrative tasks around the office and helping out with projects for the VP’s Cabinet.

What have you learned as a result of working for Student Affairs?

SW: I’ve learned the workings and value of higher education. I hope to go into it at some point later in my life.

Adam Forstall is a 1st year student from Lexington, Massachusetts. He is majoring in Mechanical Engineering and works in the Office of Communications for Campus Recreation.

Why did you come to Tech?

AF:  I came to Tech because it is one of the finest engineering institutions in the nation and that is an appropriate fit for my skill set and interests. It is also home to endless opportunities for extracurricular activities in and around campus, as well as a significant amount of post-college possibilities around Atlanta.

What are your plans after graduation?

AF:  The current plan is to get a job involving either science or math, hopefully that involves a little travel, but the specifics of everything are for time to decide. My real plan has always been to be happy. Tech is simply the type of institution that can give me the tools necessary to achieve that goal, no matter which path I take.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?

AF:  I am currently a part of the Cooking club as well as the Aviation club.

What are some of your work responsibilities?

AF:  I am a marketing and graphic design assistant. I facilitate the publication of advertisements through print and social media.

What have you learned as a result of working for Student Affairs?

AF: Through an assortment of projects and responsibilities I have further developed my professional, business and (job-specific) marketing skills. These are transferable strengths that I will be able to take with me to any job in the future. It is without a doubt one of the most enriching opportunities I have been a part of here at Tech.

Stay tuned later in the spring semester as we feature more of our amazing students who contribute to the mission of the Division of Student Affairs.
