Younan Xia Honored by American Chemical Society

Primary tabs

Professor Younan Xia, the Brock Family Chair and GRA Eminent Scholar in Nanomedicine is this year's recipient of the American Chemical Society's (ACS) Award in the Chemistry of Materials sponsored by E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. This award is given annually in recognition of creative work in the chemistry of materials.

Xia holds faculty appointments in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, where his research focuses on the synthesis of new nanomaterials and their application in biomedical technologies.

The ACS citation for the award speaks to that research focus: "For groundbreaking contributions to the invention of many important new forms of nanocrystals, and the mechanistic understanding and elegant experimental control of their chemical syntheses."

To recognize this fantastic honor, the ACS will hold an awards symposium in Xia's honor at the 245th ACS National Meeting & Exposition, which will be held in New Orleans this coming April.
