Economic Development usually refers to the adoption of new technologies, transition from agriculture-based to industry-based economy and general improvement in living standards . With the advent of Google Earth, Web 2.0, geo-tagged Social Networking tools and innumerous Location Based Services, it is not only advantageous, but necessary, to adopt geospatial technologies* in support of Economic Development and Community Engagement activities.

This "GIS4 Economic Development" course is geared toward the professional engaged in economic development, planning, real estate and other community activities but a beginner or novice in geographic information systems (GIS) and similar geotechnologies. It is intended to encourage geospatial thinking and equip attendees with resources necessary to implement an innovative geospatial approach to Economic Development.

This hands-on workshop will introduce you to tools and approaches, using geotechnologies, necessary to be more effective in today’s technology-driven environment, especially as related to place-based concerns such as economic development, real estate, planning and community engagement activities.
