August may be five months away, but the incoming class of 2012 received admission notifications this weekend, and the GT 1000 Team Leader Advisory Board (TLAB) is already seeking Team Leaders for the popular freshman seminar.

GT 1000 is a one-hour course offered to all students in their freshman year. Course instructors come from all over campus and volunteer to help students assimilate into the Georgia Tech community. Two to four upperclassmen students, known as Team Leaders, pair up with an instructor to assist in teaching and mentoring freshmen. Team Leaders shape the first few months freshmen spend on campus, introducing them to Georgia Tech traditions, academic support, co-curricular activities and the city of Atlanta.

“Serving as a Team Leader, or TL, enables upperclassmen to give back to younger Yellow Jacket generations,” said Stephanie Savitz, a fourth-year business administration major and member of the Team Leader Advisory Board. Savitz added that through her experience serving as a TL and on the advisory board, she has developed leadership skills that help her more effectively communicate to faculty and staff, enhance her time management and public speaking skills and find opportunities outside of GT 1000.

Students interested being Team Leaders should apply by Thursday, March 29, and are encouraged to attend an information session on Tuesday, March 27, at 7 p.m. in room O17 (Chem Annex) of the College of Computing.

“I have had so many GT 1000 students come back and tell me that GT 1000 has been their favorite class, even after a couple years at Georgia Tech,” said Savitz. “Another great thing that comes from GT 1000 is being able to truly form friendships with those in the class.”

Applicant qualifications include:

• Completed two semesters at Georgia Tech by Fall 2012.
• Enrolled at Georgia Tech in Fall 2012.
• Earned a minimum 2.3 cumulative GPA (verified by the Office of the Registrar).
• Good Academic Standing and Good Judicial Standing (verified by the Office of the Dean of Students).
• Commit 2 hours per week in Fall 2012: 1 hour class time, 1 hour meeting with instructor outside of class.
• Attend mandatory training session on Sunday, August 26.
• Promote and support GT 1000 programming.
• Read the Freshman Reading Project book (will be provided).
