Perl has long been regarded as a powerful tool for UNIX systems administrators. With the advent of the Internet and web programming, Perl has matured into a feature-rich development environment capable of much, much more.

About the Course
Perl from the Ground Up provides detailed instruction and examples on the basic and intermediate elements the of Perl language. Beginning with basic syntax, a methodical approach takes the programmer though learning the language elements to developing fully interactive applications.

Who Should Attend
This three-day course is designed for system administrators and web designers who are ready to take advantage of this powerful language.

Prerequisites
Introduction to the C Language (COMP-151) or an equivalent programming language is required. Experience with UNIX or NT administration or systems programming will be helpful.

Course Objectives
This interactive course provides hands-on experience in learning and developing Perl applications for seasoned programmers and web developers. Upon successful completion of this course you will have the skills necessary to:

* Develop interactive Perl applications
* Use of data types and contexts, basic input and output and simple file access
* Use regular expressions with Perl operators and flow control
* Optimize Perl code with Perl libraries, modules, and user functions
* Use CGI.PM with the Internet
